A happiness map of the UK: memory mapping

An interesting way to map the cultural memories of an area has been reported by the Culture 24 website, in an arts and internet based project currently focused on Exeter.

The online map includes many memories of historic towns and cities and people’s interaction with their surroundings.

Culture 24 writes:
Starting with art-as-game trio Invisible Flock, who will occupy a disused shop on Exeter High Street armed with tea, giant maps of the city and a desire to record favourite memories of passers-by, the project will end up in the Met Office’s base, where a joyful six-piece band, Hope and Social, will try to retell some of the stories.

The Flock will draw a map of Exeter’s happiness. They’ve already received hundreds from elsewhere across the country thanks to a tour and interactive online map.

Felicity Liggins, a Climate Adaptation Scientist at the Met Office, said the Exeter team ‘was ‘proud” of their local community, predicting an event which would celebrate the city in a ‘unique’ and ‘entertaining’ way’
